The Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) has disowned a Facebook account using the name and photograph of its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. I.N.S. Dozie, warning members of the public against possible fraud.
The university, in a disclaimer issued on August 7 and signed by its Public Relations Officer, Orakwe Ezugwu, anipr, said the Vice-Chancellor does not operate any personal Facebook account.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Vice-Chancellor does not operate any personal Facebook account. Consequently, any Facebook account claiming to belong to Prof. I.N.S. Dozie is fake, and has no connection whatsoever with the Vice-Chancellor,” the statement said.
FUTO urged the public not to engage with operators of such accounts or send them money, gifts or personal information. The university also advised anyone who comes across similar accounts to report them to Facebook and notify the institution.
Management warned that the accounts could be operated by fraudsters seeking to deceive and scam unsuspecting members of the public.
