The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has joined in the commemoration of the World Food Day 2025 themed, “Hand in Hand, For Better Foods, and Better Future”.
The theme aligns with the focus of the 2026 Nigerian Public Relations Week (NPRW) “Food Security: From Public Policy to Public Plates – The Public Relations Imperatives”, taking place in Kaduna April.
It underscores the Institute’s commitment to deploy strategic communication to address issues of hunger, nutrition, and sustainable agriculture in Nigeria.

According to NIPR President, Dr. Ike Neliaku, the challenge of food security extends beyond agriculture and economics to include trust, communication, and citizen engagement.
“Public relations provides the framework for trust-building between government, producers, and consumers,” Dr. Neliaku said in Thursday.
He added, “Addressing food insecurity demands more than policies. It requires the right public understanding, behavioural change, and collaboration driven by strategic communication.”
The NIPR boss emphasised that Nigeria’s journey toward achieving food sufficiency must include transparent communication of policy intentions, and active citizen participation across the agricultural value chain.
The Chairman of the National Planning Committee for NPRW 2026, Yomi Badejo-Okusanya said the gathering expected to have over 2,000 communication specialists from across the country will serve as a platform to amplify the role of food security in advancing national security and nation-building.
“Our goal is to use this platform to amplify Nigeria’s food security agenda and inspire strategic partnerships among the public, private, and development sectors. Public relations will play a crucial role in transforming policy promises into practical impact, putting food on the tables of Nigerians.”
The NIPR reaffirmed its readiness to work with ministries, agencies, donor partners, civil society, and the private sector to champion communication-driven solutions that support Nigeria’s food security goals.
The Kaduna State government has since indicated its readiness to host the week-long event, which will also have international delegates in attendance.
In addition to communication professionals, it will have policymakers, researchers, and development stakeholders in attendance for a robust programme including keynote sessions, policy dialogues, exhibitions, and community outreach initiatives.
