The just concluded APC presidential primary in Abia State has reinforced the political strength of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and his continued dominance in Abia North Senatorial District, his home-front. At the election, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu secured a whooping total of 161,005 votes across the state, majority of which were Orji Kalu’s direct influence apart from the fact that lager number of the votes came from Abia North, his stronghold.
In Bende where Tinubu recorded 39,826 votes, one of the highest in the state, was visibly achieved with Kalu’s political structure. The seamless mobilisation of party members across wards and communities from onset, and the clear result of that outing, demonstrates that the former Abia governor still maintains a deep grassroots network built over many years.
This primary is a show of political coordination and party strength ahead of the 2027 general elections, and the Abia North result has reinforced the fact that OUK’s APC is becoming more united and competitive in the state, starting from his hometown. Despite the internal disagreements that affected the party in previous years, Orji Kalu’s steady work to rebuild and stabilise the APC structure across the state has yielded positively.
These numbers are not just votes for Tinubu, but evidence of a now organised political party driven largely by Kalu’s long-standing grassroots influence and strategic political network. For those who were doubting, this is a sign of what is coming in 2027 general election, as promised by Kalu.
