The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) has declared Senator Orji Uzor Kalu as the most respected political leader in the South East region.
The apex sociopolitical youth group made the declaration whilst commending the lawmaker representing Abia North Senatorial District for his role in recent political defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the zone.
In a statement signed by its President General, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, COSEYL praised Senator Kalu’s “unwavering commitment” to advancing democracy and improving the lives of his constituents.
The group described the former Abia State Governor as a “relentless advocate for the Ndigbo and democracy at large,” highlighting his personal sacrifices for political emancipation in the South East.
COSEYL noted that Senator Kalu had invested substantial personal resources in securing political representation for the Igbo people, despite facing severe consequences including the loss of multiple business licences.
The statement specifically referenced the revocation of his airline licence by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, which the group attributed to Kalu’s principled political stance.
“Despite facing severe repercussions, Senator Kalu has remained resolute in his fight for justice, equity, and the betterment of Nigeria,” the statement read.
The youth coalition emphasised that Kalu’s sacrifices “cannot be overstated,” describing him as a leader who prioritises public welfare over personal gain.
COSEYL particularly recognised Senator Kalu’s influential role in recent political realignments within the South East, crediting his political acumen with encouraging opposition governors, lawmakers, and prominent political figures to defect to the APC.
“His political acumen and unwavering dedication have been fundamental in encouraging defections from opposition lawmakers, governors, and other prominent political figures to the All Progressive Congress,” the group stated.
The coalition said this influence has enhanced unity and strengthened South East representation in Nigeria’s national political arena.
“The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders stands firm in our belief that Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is the most respected political leader in the South East,” Ibem’s statement concluded.
The group expressed gratitude to Senator Kalu for his “remarkable leadership and tireless efforts in advocating for the Ndigbo and Nigerian democracy.”
